Support for young people who are struggling, overwhelmed, or finding life hard to navigate.

Children and teens can experience stress, anxiety, emotional intensity, friendship challenges, school pressure, low confidence, or a sense of feeling different without always having the words to explain it. Sometimes these struggles show up clearly. Other times they appear through withdrawal, shutdown, irritability, overwhelm, behaviour changes, or difficulty coping.

Counselling offers a supportive space where young people can feel seen, understood, and gently supported in making sense of what they are experiencing.

I also recognise that support for children and teens often works best when parents feel included and supported too.

Children and teen counselling may support with..

  • Anxiety and excessive worry

  • Emotional regulation difficulties

  • School stress or school refusal

  • Low self-esteem or loss of confidence

  • Friendship or peer challenges

  • Family changes or tension

  • Neurodivergent experiences, including ADHD

  • Overwhelm, shutdown, or emotional intensity

  • Difficulty expressing feelings

  • Feeling different, misunderstood, or stuck

A gentle, developmentally aware approach

My approach is warm, respectful, and tailored to the age, needs, and communication style of each child or teen. I draw from counselling approaches including somatic therapy, CBT, ACT, solution-focused work, attachment understanding, and a neuroaffirming lens where relevant.

For some young people, talking comes easily. For others, it takes time to feel safe enough to open up. Therapy is paced gently and aims to support emotional awareness, regulation, self-understanding, and a stronger sense of steadiness and connection.

Where appropriate, parent involvement can also form part of the process, helping create greater support around the young person.

  • Yes. I support neurodivergent children and teens, including young people who may be navigating ADHD, overwhelm, emotional intensity, school stress, self-esteem challenges, or feeling different from their peers.

  • For many young people, yes. Whether online counselling is the right fit depends on their age, needs, attention, comfort, and the kind of support they are looking for. Some engage very well online, while others benefit more from in-person sessions.

  • Where appropriate, yes. Parent involvement can be an important part of supporting children and teens, while still making sure the young person has their own safe and respectful space. Confidentiality for over 16 years of age applies, unless there is concern for welfare. I always encourage this age group to share and include their parents on a part of what we are working on. It works very well when parents are on board and can implement changes at home too.
